The Dometic recall is simply a bandaid on a dam leak. I had the recall performed (incorrectly thinking it was to fix a problem, not just to keep the RV from burning to the ground WHEN the leak developed!) and shortly thereafter had my unit quit working...becasue it had developed a leak! As I have no close service centers, I chose to replace the cooling unit myself. Dometic has been nothing but a headache to work with...they don't care that my unit failed at 3 years; they don't care that there are no close sevice centers; they don't want to stand behind their product; they don't care about customer service ot loyalty. I have transferred all of the material and electronics over to the new unit and reinstalled my unit. Works great! better than new on electric. I have connected my gas line but not turned the gas on because the way the recall shroud was installed, I cannot access the burner to check the flame. I have contacted Dometic to ask for a diagram of the shroud to ensure I reinstalled it correctly and they refused to release any information. "Take it back to the dealer that performed the recall work" (they are now out of business) or take it to an authorized service center (closest one over 5 hours away and they will charge me to perform this check!). Wish I had a Norcold and I wouldn't be going through this hassle!

I guess Chris is busy, so for you that are interested. I found the problem.
At full extention before the step reaches the adjustable stops the step stops extending but the motor keeps trying to open. I believe that the large plastic gear in the gear box has a broken tooth at the point of full extention and is unable to the limit switch to take effect. So I adjusted the stops to stop the extention before the end of its travel. This enabled the pressure to the limit switch to be reached and turned the motor off, as it should be.
The step is working properly now, but I need to open the gear box and see if the gear can moved to a different position so the broken gear is no longer a concern.
Hope this helps some one.

Had to repair the support for My Kwikee (series 32).
After replacing, everything works fine accept that on extention the motor continues to run. On extention the control arm is agains to gear housing.
It shuts off fine on retraction.
Is this a problem with the controler? or wiring? or in the gearbox?

HELP out of MONEY
Thank You!!!!

I recently purchased a used 2006 Cross Roads Cruiser with a Dometic Refrigerator model # RM2652LB, according to the Dometic site this unit is on the recall list. How can I tell if the previous owner had (or didn't have) the recall retrofit completed? Is there a picture available anywhere that that shows before and after retrofit kits are installed?

Thanks for any information you may provide.

Have a 1997 Pace Arrow with Kwikee Series 32 step. My step has been out for a while and now won't retract. If I reverse the wires (red and yellow) from the controller to the step motor it retracts. I then need to reverse the wires again to get the step to go out. Am I having a controller problem and it's not reversing the polarity? Can someone help me out?

Hi -- has anyone attempted to 'route" a drian hose of a roof top AC unit. Mine is working nicely, but on humid Cape Cod days, there can be as much as 5-6 gallons of water puddling on the roof top. I'm worried that in time, it will eventually find it's way inside. (I don't want to "lose" my level on 26' trailer to encourage run off.

Thanks ! -- DMc

Reference my June 27, 2010, post. I was successful in finding a gear case and linkage kit for my Series 28 Kwikee step at www.pplmotorhomes.com for $78.00. It arrived in only 4 days. A minor adjustment was necessary, however, the 3 motor anchoring bolts had to be replaced and 3 holes in the motor casting had to be enlarged to 15/64". When I mounted it on the step and completed the electrical and linkage connections it worked like a charm.

I want to thank anyone who took their time researching my problem. And hope the above information helps anyone with a similar problem.

Hello Chris,

I have just purchased a 77 country camper with a suburban furnace. Everything worked except the Suburban NT furnace. I took it out and found burnt ground wires had them replaced and Bench tested its good to go now except when I reconnected it, wires were getting hot and blew fuse. I think that might have been original problem and re wired it all is good now except fan stays on when thermostat is off.. This is a heat only setup, do you think I need new thermostat? also when I turn sterio on fan runs faster and interior lights get brighter??? Scary

Most of the Kwikee Step problems I read about here are worm-gear, linkage, or electrical related. My problem with a Kwikee 28 Series Single Step model is what appears to be a flawed gear. The larger 4-inch gear in the gear case loses chips from its teeth which causes the step to jam and freeze usually in the down position. Each time this happens (4 times at about 6-month intervals) I disassemble, clean, regrease and adjust the gear position to ensure only undamaged teeth are in contact with the smaller motor drive gear (only about a third of the 4-inch gear is used in the in-and-out operation of the step). I've also turned the gear over to use as many undamaged sections as possible and there are no longer any undamaged sections available. All other functions of the step's operation work normally. Camping World attempted to order the gear or the gear case and linkage but Kwikee told them these are no longer available separately and that I would have to order a motor, gear box, linkage kit for $310 to solve my problem. Purchase of a new Series 28 step would cost me $700 they told me. I see prices for the 28 Series step from $289 to $310 on the Net but haven't found a source for the gear or gear case and linkage kit.

Please contact me at jjsievers@juno.com if anyone has had a similar problem to mine and found a source for a 28 Series gear case and linkage.
